DNA Test – Remarkable Stories

The world was recently captivated by the story of a woman lost in the jungle for nineteen years whose family withdrew permission for a DNA test.

Why no DNA test?

A woman, who had been lost in the jungle for nineteen years, was found in a remote village on the border between Cambodia Vietnam. Sal Lou claimed the woman to be his daughter, who disappeared in 1988 while tending a buffalo herd, but he later withdrew permission for a DNA test to confirm this.

Identity verified by DNA test

When Rochom P’ngient was found her father said she was extremely skinny and scuttling like a monkey on the ground. But when pictures of her revealed a healthy young woman, suspicions increased and officials asked for a DNA test to prove her identity.

Deepening mystery

The mystery deepened after Lou withdrew permission for a DNA test to confirm her identity and police had to cordon off their home to keep the media out. Lou said the reason he withdrew permission for the DNA test was that he wanted to be left alone to make up lost time with his daughter.

DNA test only answer

Rumours of another mysterious naked man being spotted in the Cambodian jungle mean that the only way to fully confirm that Lou is the woman’s father would be a DNA test.

Identifying scars

Suspicion mounted as Lou said that the woman could be identified by scars on the woman's wrist, which were sustained after she was playing with a knife as a child, although sceptics believe the scars result from being bound at the wrist, a common practice in some remote villages for the mentally ill. Only a DNA test would truly prove her identity.

DNA test would put rumours to rest

The woman’s alleged mother, Rochom Soy, also believed the girl to be their child and said she was showing signs of recognising them, but it has also been reported that she screams when her alleged parents approach her, and also that she has tried to escape back into the jungle more than once. Only a DNA test would put the rumours to rest and solve the mystery once and for all.
