Paternity Test Kits Prove 13-Year-Old Alfie Not the Father

After a long period of coverage in the UK tabloids it was recently revealed that a 13-year-old boy named Alfie Patten was not the father of an older girl's child as was previously thought. A few simple paternity test kits have revealed that the father of the child is in fact another boy the teenage girl slept with.

Initially, Alfie was considered the youngest boy in the UK to have ever become a father after he had sexual intercourse with Chantelle Steadman, his 15-year-old girlfriend, whilst he was just 12. Despite the fact that a DNA test has now proven he is not the child's father he has publically vowed to care for the child anyway. The baby was very healthy when born and named Maisie by Steadman.

At the time of her child's birth, several popular UK papers, including The Sun and the Daily Mail, ran articles on the issues facing the two teenagers. Consequently, several other boys came forward and claimed to have also had sex with Chantelle. In an article posted on The Mirror website Alfie's mother described Alfie's reaction to this, saying the other boys assertions were devastating for the 13-year-old who loved Chantelle's new born child.

At that time, Chantelle claimed that Alfie Patten was the only boy whom she had ever had sex with, but since DNA evidence has come to light further tests to establish the paternity of her baby are likely to take place.

Paternity Test Kits - An Eager Father

When Alfie believed himself to be the father of Steadman's baby he seemed happy to take on the responsibility fatherhood presented and his initial reasoning for taking the DNA test was to prove his paternity rather than deny it.

When describing the process for determining the father of the child, Alfie, who looks even younger than his already tender age of 13 years, said that a swab was taken from inside his mouth and based on that sample a DNA test determined whether or not Maisie was his child

Paternity Test Kits - Social Responses

Alfie's family history was delved into by the tabloids and both his parents were criticised for facilitating his ability to have sex at such an early age. Some reports also suggested that a half sister of Alfie called Jayde (with the same father as him) also became a mother when she was just 13 years old.

According to some journalists it was the fact that Alfie appeared to be much younger than his already young 13 years which truly shocked and upset people. Additionally, the fact he was noticeably immature and responded naively to questions made the situation seem even more controversial.

All of this, compounded by a flurry of hysterical reporting by the UK tabloids, led to a lot of political discourse on under-aged sex and the state of society on the whole. Resultantly, some journalists have questioned the severity of the public outcry.

In one article, Tony Kerridge who works for sexual health group Marie Stopes strongly criticised the UK's sex education in schools. Meanwhile, Ed Balls, the UK Children's Secretary emphasised the need for all members of society to do everything within their power to help keep down the numbers of teenagers facing pregnancy.
