Get a DNA Test from Who’zThe Daddy?

There are so many people out there who want to get a DNA test in order to improve their lives or answer important questions. However, if you want to get a DNA test it can seem a little complicated and technical. The truth is that getting DNA tests these days is incredibly simple, utterly painless and inexpensive.

Most of us associate DNA testing with forensic crime labs but one of the most common non law-enforcement reasons to have tests carried out is paternity testing. By comparing the DNA of a child and a potential father it is possible to see who is related to whom and therefore determine who that child’s biological father is.

In cases where it’s hard to know who the true biological father of an infant is, people who opt to get a DNA test can work out who is responsible for the child, legally and logistically. DNA testing is invaluable now because for thousands of years there was no way of conclusively proving paternity. Now though, you can be sure about the paternity of a child by carrying out an easy test.

How to Get a DNA Test

If you’re interested in taking a DNA test or helping someone else test for family connections then the first step is finding a good company to do the work for you. Choose a company which is accredited, able to provide you with lots of information and which has a good reputation. There are lots of companies out there but ensure that you choose someone certified, not just someone inexpensive.

Once you’ve chosen a company they will send you a DNA testing kit for you to collect samples of DNA. The standard method of collecting samples is by swabbing the inside of the cheek for cheek cells (which is painless and easy) and then the samples are sent straight to the lab to get tested.

Once you've returned the samples it’s time to wait for results. Some companies will post results on a special secure website for you to see as soon as they come through and other businesses will send them by out by email. Often some good businesses choose to do both.

Other Kinds of DNA Tests

There are other kinds of tests too, which are perhaps worth mentioning, for example prenatal tests which are more invasive and require tissue taken from a the amniotic fluid around the baby with a needle. Samples like this need to be conducted in a private clinic though and in many cases it would be less stressful, less risky and less expensive to just wait until the baby was born and swab their inner cheek instead. Obviously, in cases where time is of the essence some prenatal tests are preferable.

After the test results come back from any kind of DNA test there are likely to be consequences of getting the answer you seek. Consider how you’ll deal with knowing the truth before you take DNA tests and if you think that you (or someone else) might become distressed with a certain outcome, you may want to contact a doctor or therapist to talk through how you, or they, feel.
